Plain English summary: We run a lawn weed information website. We use Google AdSense to show ads and standard analytics to understand how people use the site. We do not sell your personal data. We do not collect more data than we need. Full details are below.
Consent
Your agreement to this policy
By using WeedKillerLawn.ca, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. This policy applies to all visitors regardless of whether you are located in the United States, Canada, or elsewhere.
If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please discontinue use of the site. We may update this policy from time to time — the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
Information We Collect
What data we may receive from you
The personal information we ask you to provide, and the reasons why we ask for it, will be made clear at the point we request it. We collect information in two main ways:
When you contact us
If you use our contact form or email us directly, we may receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to your query.
Automatically collected data
Like all websites, we automatically receive standard technical data when you visit:
- IP address (used only for geographic analytics and fraud prevention)
- Browser type and version
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Referring website (how you found us)
- Device type (desktop, tablet, mobile)
Note: We do not collect payment information, social media credentials, government IDs, or sensitive personal data of any kind. We run a free, ad-supported lawn information site — there is no account registration and no purchase flow.
How We Use Your Information
The specific purposes your data serves
We use the information we collect for these specific, limited purposes:
- To operate and maintain the website so pages load correctly for you
- To understand which guides and tools are most useful (analytics)
- To improve existing content and identify gaps in our coverage
- To respond to your questions or feedback when you contact us
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse of our free tools
- To serve relevant advertisements through Google AdSense (see Advertising section)
We do not use your data to build personal profiles, make automated decisions about you, or sell your information to third parties. We do not send marketing emails unless you specifically opt in to a future newsletter (which does not currently exist).
Log Files
Standard server-side data collection
WeedKillerLawn follows the standard practice of using server log files. These files automatically record basic information every time a visitor loads a page — this is standard on all web hosting services worldwide.
Log file data includes: IP addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring and exit pages, and click counts. This information is not linked to any personally identifiable information and is used solely to analyse trends, administer the site, and gather aggregate demographic information (for example, understanding that 60% of our visitors are from Canada).
Server log files are typically retained for 30–90 days and then automatically deleted or anonymised by our hosting provider.
Cookies & Web Beacons
Small files that improve your experience
Like most websites, WeedKillerLawn uses cookies. Cookies are small text files stored in your browser that remember your preferences and help us understand how visitors use the site.
What we use cookies for
- Remembering your preferences (for example, if you selected the 🇨🇦 Canada view in our weed ID tool)
- Analytics: understanding which pages are most visited and how visitors navigate the site
- Advertising: Google AdSense uses cookies to show relevant ads (see below)
Managing cookies
You can choose to disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some features on this site. Each browser handles cookie management differently — consult your browser's help documentation for instructions.
Canadian visitors (PIPEDA): You have the right to withdraw consent for cookies at any time by adjusting your browser settings. Our use of analytics and advertising cookies falls within normal commercial purposes under Canada's PIPEDA framework.
Advertising Partners
How we fund free content and tools
WeedKillerLawn is a free resource. We fund the site through Google AdSense display advertising. No advertiser pays to be recommended or reviewed in our guides. Our product rankings are based solely on effectiveness, regional availability, and value — not on advertising relationships.
Google AdSense & the DART Cookie
Google is our advertising partner. Google uses cookies, including the DART cookie, to serve ads to visitors based on their prior visits to this and other websites on the internet. This allows Google to show you ads that may be more relevant to your interests.
You can opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network Privacy Policy.
Our advertising partners
Our commitment: We do not allow advertisers to influence our editorial content, product rankings, or recommendations. No brand pays to appear in our guides. All product reviews are independent.
Third-Party Privacy Policies
Services and links outside our control
Our Privacy Policy applies only to WeedKillerLawn.ca. When you click links to external websites — such as product pages at Canadian Tire, Home Depot, or Amazon — those sites have their own privacy policies that govern your data.
Third-party ad networks and services (Google AdSense) may use cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons in their advertisements on our site. These are sent directly to your browser, and those third parties automatically receive your IP address when this happens. WeedKillerLawn has no access to or control over these third-party cookies.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit through links on our pages, as their data practices may differ from ours.
